I have noticed that some people are suggesting Alicia Vikander to play Celia Bowen, but I always imagined Lily Collins would be more appropriae. As for marco, perhaps Kit Harrington.
Hello! I'm new to Wikia, but love this book and thought that I'd put my two-pence in. Here's my personal opinion on casting for this movie:
Scrolling IMDB comments about "dream castings", I CRINGED at the names "Emma Watson" and "Zooey Dechanel" and "Lily Colins". I have nothing against these actresses - I love them all and think they're extremely talented (especially Emma; I am a lifelong Potterhead!) - but I do think they they would simply not be right for the part of Celia Bowen. Personally, I always imagined Celia as a very unique and exotic character; strong, yet undoubtedly feminine, with a presence that is both demanding and demure. For these reasons, I LOVE the idea of Gemma Arterton as Celia. I believe she could play the role spectacularly. [I also imagine her as Rowena Ravenclaw, but that's another fandom for another forum!] Another reason for choosing her is because unlike Scarlett Johansen and Emma Watson, she is not the most well-known actress. I am unsure if my fears are valid, but I do have the concern that if you choose such a well-known actress - perhaps one TOO iconic - it could very easily take away from the atmosphere of the novel-turned-movie.
Now, moving on... I do very much like the idea of Ben Barnes as Marco. For Prospero, I had a difficult time because I wondered if the actor I thought of was TOO old; But I do think that John Noble would be AMAZING for the task of playing Prospero. (Or perhaps he would be better suited for Alexander?) My second choice for either Alexander or Prospero was Jim Broadbent.
I'm not sure why, but the image of Annasophia Robb popped into my head when I thought of Isobelle. And the tried-and-true actress Lucy Liu is my current favorite for Tsukiko. And Bailey? Logan Lerman, please!
One strange idea I had while watching Castle with my parents, is the thought of Molly C. Quinn as Poppet. Not just because she's a redhead, but also because of her personality. As for Widget, I thought perhaps Robbie Kay (Peter Pan in Once Upon A Time)?
Friederick: Thomas Kretschmann or Jude Law. Chandresh (Whom I basically think of as the love child of Pedro Pascal and Robert Downey Jr): Either of the two I just mentioned, or maybe someone entirely new. Whoever plays Chandresh has got to be amazing though! And I think if anyone was to play Tante Padva, it's got to be Meryl Streep. Just YES.
That's really all I can think of right now. Anywhoo, I know that Gemma might be a little old to play Celia, but really I think that the quality of the actress's acting is more important than how close her age is to the character's. (And that goes for ALL actors and actresses.) Again, these are just my humble opinions. I'd love to hear all of yours!
